Part 2
For this part, read the paragraph below, then watch the video, and practice on the Quizizz. PLEASE USE YOUR REAL NAME FOR THE QUIZIZZ.
There are two major types of world government. The first is a autocracy. In an autocracy, the country is controlled by one leader. The people of the country are not allowed to vote and have no say in how their government is run. In fact the people usually do not have rights such as freedom of speech and freedom of the press (news). Sometimes an autocracy is created when a dictator uses the military to take over the country. This happened in Cuba. Cuba is an example of an autocracy. One ruler, Raul Castro, is in charge of the country. Cuba calls its leader, Raul Castro, a president. He is not like presidents in the rest of Latin America. His people have no freedom and no basic rights like freedom of speech, the press, or religion.
Mexico and Brazil are examples of democracies in Latin America. In democracies, citizens have a say in their government and can vote. They also have rights such as freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Both Brazil and Mexico elect legislators to represent them. Legislators make the laws of a country. Both Mexico and Brazil also elect a president. They are both called presidential democracies. The president is called the executive leader. The executive leader enforces the laws and controls the military. In Mexico, a president may serve one six-year term in office. In Brazil, the president may serve up to two four-year terms. Voting ages vary in each country. Voting is permitted for those 18 years of age and older in Mexico. In Brazil, people are required to vote at 18. They will face a fine if they do not vote. People in Brazil are allowed to vote as early as 16 years old. Last, but not least, grades thus far have been entered into the grade book. Please check StudentVUE!
